David D. Stone is a successful serial technology entrepreneur whose passion is to create and build innovative companies at the center of emerging market shifts. In . 2017, David launched Forager (goforager.com) to accelerate the growth of the local food movement and make fresh, healthy, and local food more widely available for everyone. This innovative platform connects grocers with local farmers and food producers and digitizes the entire procurement process. Fast Company and the Forbes Technology Council have both highlighted Forager's ability to make a national impact on our food system.
Before Forager, David co-founded CashStar, a digital gifting company that catalyzed the shift from plastic to digital gift cards and drove more than $2 billion in digital prepaid value. CashStar was recently acquired for $175M, generating an over 400% return for investors. Through his leadership at Affinnova, this fledging venture and its product optimization enterprise software from the garage to commercialization and eventually to its successful $78M exit.
Early in his career, he served as a senior executive in several financial services firms, including American Express, where he pioneered the first universal prepaid product, the American Express Gift Cheque, which quickly grew to sales in excess of $300M.
David has been recognized as The Maine Business Person of The Year (2012), Mass High Tech All-Star and Tech Luminary (2012), and Prepaid Payments Executive of the Year (2011). He has been quoted and covered in Wired, Fortune, Forbes, The Atlantic, and is a contributor to Food Dive and The Progressive Grocer.
David has a B.A. in German and Political Studies from Tufts University and an M.A. in International Relations and Business from Tufts and Harvard University.
